Beschrijving: Parties of the Irish Guards with Royal Engineers of either 55th Company or 76th Company RE carry coils of wire past defences and over the Yser Canal by a small footbridge. They are followed by Grenadier Guards and by men of the RAMC returning with wounded. On another part of the canal, possibly Bois de Crapouillots, a main road bridge is under construction. There is general wreckage, including a lorry (possibly of 36th Division, note the unit sign) and an RFA limber with all the horses dead, and a digging party clearing up.
Royal Engineers field companies and men of the Guards Division crossing the Yser Canal, Western Front, 31 July 1917.
